Locked out of IRIS right before a deadline is a common, avoidable headache. The reset process is quick if you still have access to your registered mobile number — and there's a clear path even if you don't.
If You Still Have Your Registered Mobile Number
- Go to iris.fbr.gov.pk and click "Forgot Password"
- Enter your CNIC number
- An OTP is sent to your registered mobile
- Enter the OTP and set a new password (at least 8 characters, mixing letters, numbers, and a symbol)
If Your Mobile Number Has Changed
You'll need to update your registered number before a password reset can work. This can be done by visiting an FBR Tax Facilitation Centre with your original CNIC, or by calling FBR's helpline and completing identity verification questions. If you'd rather not deal with this in person, NTNWaale can handle the credential recovery process on your behalf — just send your CNIC details over WhatsApp.
Account Locked After Failed Attempts
IRIS locks an account after several consecutive failed login attempts, typically for 24 hours. Repeated attempts during the lockout only reset the timer, so it's better to wait it out or call the FBR helpline to request an early unlock with your CNIC ready for verification. A suspended (as opposed to simply locked) account usually requires an in-person visit to your Regional Tax Office.
